Lightning Talks are Hot!

redlightning[lahyt-ning tawk] (noun): A very short presentation given at a conference or similar forum. Lasting only a few minutes with multiple topics delivered during a single period by different speakers.

In 2014, SIGUCCS experimented with its first ever lightning talk session. During this one-hour time slot, five presenters each gave a 7 minute presentation on their prepared topics. Topics ranged from “What are Lightning Talks” to “Being a Mentor among your Peers”. The challenge of the lightning talk format is to present your topic in a clear and concise manner. The benefit is to offer the audience a broad array of information in a single session. This session did both.

SIGUCCS 2015 Conference – Call for Proposals

siguccs_ad_FINALThe Special Interest Group on University and College Computing Services (SIGUCCS) is an association of professionals dedicated to the support and management of diverse aspects of information technology services at higher education institutions.

Presentations

New attendees and presenters are encouraged to participate. Visit the conference proposals website for a detailed explanation of presentation formats and submission guidelines or if you have a topic in mind, login here to submit your abstract now!

In addition, this year we are introducing Lightning Talks, a new form of group presentation pioneered at last year’s conference, whereby each member of a small group is allocated 7 minutes to present a concise, specific topic. This format is well suited for seasoned presenters who wish to share a tip as well as for first-time presenters ready to take the step forward and gain experience presenting for a professional conference.
